Visiting Hours

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Visiting is encouraged at any reasonable time and is most appreciated in the afternoon and early evening.

Restorative Care Unit
Visiting hours are: 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon, 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
No visiting is permitted during rest period, 12 noon - 1 p.m.

Parking
Parking is free of charge for staff and visitors.

Barber/Hairdresser
The hairdresser visits once a week. Veterans and patients are welcome to use this service or can arrange to have their own barber/hairdresser visit. This service is at the veteran's or patient's expense.

Laundry

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Clothing is laundered for the veterans at no charge. Minor mending is also done at no charge. Clothing requiring alteration or dry cleaning is the veteran's responsibility. A washer, dryer and detergent is available if the veteran or his/her family prefers to do their own laundry.

Restorative Care Unit
Laundry facilities are not available. Family members are responsible for having laundry done at home.

Passes
Day or overnight passes are available for veterans and patients as deemed appropriate. Physician approval is required and a consent form must be signed.

Telephones

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Veterans can make arrangements with Aliant to have a private telephone installed in their rooms. A telephone is available at the nurses' desk for general use and is free of charge.

Restorative Care Unit
Telephones are provided in the rooms. Patients will be billed by Aliant for long distance calls.

Televisions

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Veterans can have their own televisions. Each room is equipped with a cable hook up, free of charge.

Restorative Care Unit
There is a television in the dining/lounge area for patient use.

Alcohol

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Alcohol consumption is permitted with the approval of the veteran's physician. The alcohol is kept at the nurses' desk and is not to be shared with other veterans or visitors.

Restorative Care Unit
Alcohol is not to be consumed by patients in the restorative care unit.

Clothing/Toiletries

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Casual, washable clothing and footwear is preferred since veterans are dressed each day. Also needed are pajamas, bathrobe and slippers. All clothing items should be clearly labeled. Appropriate outerwear is needed for outings. Dress clothes for special events (November 11) may be brought in.

Personal items such as soap, deodorant, shaving cream, razor, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, brush, etc. are the veteran's responsibility.

Restorative Care Unit
Patients are dressed each day so several changes of casual, washable clothes are needed. Also needed are pajamas, bathrobe and slippers. All clothing items should be clearly labeled.

Personal items such as soap, deodorant, shaving cream, razor, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, brush, etc. are the veteran's responsibility.

Personal Belongings

Northumberland Veterans Unit
Any electronic equipment (television, radio) must be labeled and will be checked by the hospital's maintenance department. Pictures, chairs or other personal items may be brought in, as space permits, to make the veteran feel at home.

Any adaptive devices needed for daily activities, such as a wheelchair, walker or cane should accompany the veteran at the time of admission.

Each night table has a locked drawer for small valuables. Money can be placed for safekeeping in the hospital safe.

Restorative Care Unit
Patients can bring their own radio and other personal electrical equipment which will be checked by the hospital's maintenance department.

Pets
Healthy pets are welcome to visit if they are well behaved, housebroken and on a leash. They are the visitor's responsibility while in the facility. The Pet Visitation Acknowledgement Form must be signed by the pet's owner on the animal's first visit. Contact the activities director at 485-2303 or the nurses' desk at 485-2319 to make arrangements for a visit.

Mail/Newspaper
Mail is delivered daily to veterans and patients. Items to be mailed can be left at the nurses' desk.

Arrangements can be made for newspaper delivery at the veteran's or patient's expense. Daily newspapers are available in the unit.
