The Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1959 and over the years has provided services and support to the hospital. Services offered changed as the hospital changed but the underlying spirit and commitment remained. When the current hospital structure opened in 1966, the Auxiliary ran the gift shop, held dinner dances and held spring fest bazaars to raise money. In the early 1990s the auxiliary was suspended and a few years later ceased operating. Some former auxiliary members stayed on as active volunteers at the hospital.
There are many opportunities to volunteer with the veterans or patients of restorative care, particularly in the recreation program. If you're interested in volunteering at Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, please contact the recreation coordinator at 485-2303.
