Message from the President & CEO, Dr. Brendan Carr - Happy to be home

My family moved to Nova Scotia when I was 12 and I have spent most of my medical and leadership career here.  It is great to be home and to be joining an organization that is so clearly committed to providing excellent care and service, while at the same time working to improve the health of the population.

Over the past few months, I have been familiarizing myself with Nova Scotia Health Authority’s strategic plan and priorities and reviewing other background material including annual reports, accreditation documents, the workplace pulse survey results and the Healthier Together 2016-19: Measuring our Progress report. Interim president and CEO Janet Davidson and interim Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Tom Marrie have also shared some of their insights and recommendations with me, which will be helpful as I begin my new role.

While there have been a lot of changes in the health system over the past several years, one thing that clearly hasn’t changed is the ongoing support and overwhelming contributions made by foundations, auxiliaries, community health boards and other community partners. This support has been instrumental to the progress that has been made in improving  care, access to programs and services, and health. I look forward to working with our partners to continue to build on these successes.

I’ve worked in health care for more than 25 years - both as a senior leader in hospitals and health care organizations and as a physician in emergency medicine. I am passionate about the patient experience and the delivery of safe, quality care. I know you are too and look forward to working together to  improve the health and wellness of Nova Scotians.

Brendan
